Bakken area multi-vehicle wreck occurred on Thursday, July 30, according to the
Bismarck Tribune. The accident occurred at about 6:50 p.m. on McKenzie County Road 10 approximately
three miles north of Keene.
Car Attempts to Pass
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says that a 2011 Nissan Versa attempted
to pass a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck. Investigators believe that the
driver of the Versa saw an oncoming 1995 GMC Jimmy and attempted to return
to the driving lane. However, the Versa struck the Ford pickup, which
caused it to spin and strike the Jimmy. The Jimmy then rolled into the
ditch along the roadway.
Multiple Fatalities and Injuries
Three men in the Jimmy died in the wreck: a 22-year-old Watford City man,
a 27-year-old Grand Rapids, Michigan, man and a 30-year-old Rigby, Idaho,
man. Emergency personnel flew a 55-year-old passenger from Watford City
to Minot Hospital.
A 26-year-old man from Bancroft, Michigan, and a 52-year-old man from Stow,
Ohio were in the pickup, and both sustained unspecified injuries in the
crash. The 19-year-old female driver of the Versa was not hurt.
